Would that be the HSBC Sub-manager's house in the background? The wall looks similar to the one in this photo: https://gwulo.com/atom/19385

Given the relatively straight section of Garden Road, I think that is Lower Albert Road on the left. The tree that stands at the junction with Garden Road is still there. Don't know if the building was connected with the HKVDF.
