thanks IDJ, I think I can see them and have circled them below.

The leftmost one is surrounded by a low structure that was removed prior to 1963 (this is the year Lord Jim was filmed). The building in the middle was another white one with thinner upper pillars that supported the roof and the rightmost one is the red brick/granite columned one.

I've included some closer images from Lord Jim which was released in 1965 but actually filmed at this location in the autumn of 1963.

White Building 1 is the left-most building in IDJ's picture. The screengrab shows it from an angle of pretty much the same as the one in the main picture (looking almost SE). I think the grey building is the godown building immediately south of it. As you can see, in the film it is supposed to be a home/hospital where Jim is convalescing. I believe the second image may have been taken from the same side of the building but looking along the southern colonnade.

The next image is of White Building two (back right), centremost in IDJ's picture above. Its style is slightly different with thinner columns on the upper storey. Sadly it's just a glimpse.

The last building is the red brick one. The camera looks as though it is sited to the north with the first image looking SW in the direction of the waterside and the lower image looking SE back into the yard area.

This final image shows White Building 2 and Red Brick Building as they appear in The Sand Pebbles (filmed in 1966). Sadly White Building 1 doesn't appear on film only in those b-t-s images I linked to in my other post.

Hi Phil,

I'm not sure if this photo from 1961 might help. Regards, Klaus

Hi Klaus

Not really, I think the buildings are away to the right. Also, the waterfront would be below the line of sight from the park, so seeing them from the other side of the park would be difficult.

Cheers

Phil

Phil, this one should match (upper left corner), but still with only limited resolution. Regards, Klaus

Hi Klaus

Yes, I can definitely make out the northernmost building - it had a fair amount of open space surrounding it. The others aren't so clear and I can only really make them out by knowing where they should be rather than by them being identifiable by sight.

Cheers

Phil
