The border checkpoint was most probably the one (grid reference 132950) leading to Sha Tau Kok Closed Area. The road is Sha Tau Kok Road and there was a KMB bus which travelled between Sha Tau Kok Market and Fanling.

The road here takes a pass which can be clearly seen in the background.

Pleased to know this photo has now been positively identified, along with another old photo and a more recent ones. Have now retitled the image to show this, I do remember at the time we were warned by a policeman not go any closer to the gates. This I. D. has led me to read about the serious incident that took place in this area in 1967 which led to the death of 5 Policemen. Thank you both. Bryan Panter.
