Typhoon Ida, a category 5 super typhoon, hit Hong Kong between 18 and 31 August 1954. The peak intensity was 280km/h (175 mph) lasting for 1 minute. The pressure dropped to 890 hPa (mbar). The strong buildings of the camp were not badly affected, but the shack that housed the yacht club and also the yachts and canoes were badly damaged.
