C&W office moves into Electra House

The administrative offices of Cable and Wireless moved yesterday from the Gloucester Hotel to their new quarters in Electra House, in Connaught Road.

Starting tomorrow, all administrative work will be undertaken at Electra House.

Mr. F.S. Coote, Divisional Manager of Cable and Wireless in Hong Kong, told the "Sunday Herald" that the premises on the ground floor of Union Building will be maintained, despite the current shift to Electra House.

He said that Union Building's centrally located position makes it desirable that it should be maintained, as some people might find it inconvenient to walk all the way to the end of Connaught Hoad to send their cables.

Fixtures and fittings at Electra House have not yet been completed, and it will be some time before working conditions in the new quarters will settle down to normal.

Regarding the radio-photo equipment which Cable and Wireless ordered from England some time ago, Mr. Coote said that most of the machinery has arrived.

But it has not yet been installed.

Electra House has reserved two floors for Radio Hong Kong which will move from the Gloucester Hotel in two or three months.

The building is modern, and a distinct waterfront adornment.

It takes its name from Cable and Wireless’s London premises also called Electra House.
