I believe this was the main Wan Chai market - but I am not sure.  The following image might provide the answer.

Hi Andrew,

Viewing the photos together, I am more inclinded to believe this was the Hennessy Road Wet Market, which existed until sometime in the 1970's.  In its place is the market had been rebuilt into a modern multi-purpose highrise with wet market occupying two floors, a food arcade, a library governmetn offices and an indoor sports playground.

That would be #225 Hennessy Road.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the up-date. I notice that on these few images, taken on Hennessy Road, there don’t seem to be any shacks on the roof tops. My recollection is that most buildings in Wan Chai had them, so perhaps they were not allowed on the main Hennessy Road?

Hi Andrew,

Maybe these shop houses are much closer to the Police Station of sort.  There are too many possibilities to speculate upon.  Anyway, all those shop houses have chimneys in the kitchen as the was a time that a firewood stove was common when the houses were built.  There is still a Guild of Firewood Merchant in Jaffe Road, Wanchai.
