After the Terchnical block was built at Little Sai Wan in 1950/51, the airmen were billeted in the caves and Nissen huts at the old Cape Collinson Battery camp, before moving to more comfortable quarters at the Lye Mun camp until the living accommodation at Little Sai Wan was finished. The airmen, both R.A.F. and a few R.A.A.F. were transported by the gharries to and from Little Sai Wan. I understand that on one or two occasions, because there had been some sort of protest (probably about poor food as was usually the case) they were marched all the way there and back. As anyone who knows the old camp road, now the Leaping Dragon Trail/Walk, marching up it would not have been much fun! I guess that the protests fizzled out. (Andrew S)
