At Stanley Internment Camp, Hong Kong. August and September 1945. This "dental surgery' was constructed by the internees in an abandoned room at Stanley. Much of the work was in removing gold fillings which were sold to Formosan guards for food. Instruments were primitive, some made from scrap metal. The picture shows Dr J Lanchester, Government Surgeon, Hong Kong, and his assistant Sister Mary Rose, Colonial Medical Service, whose home is in London.
