Miss Margaret E. Jay in China

Miss Margaret E. Jay in China

Miss Jay went to China to teach the children of missionaries. Among these children were my father and his two younger sisters. She was a wonderful teacher, well loved by all. When her vacation to Hong Kong turned into 4 years at Stanley Internment camp, the children were devastated. They had no idea if she was alive or if she could survive.

A truly remarkable lady, she taught children in the camp and then wrote "Memories of a Japanese Internment Camp," when she retired. She had many speaking engagements in churches and Christian groups, always proclaiming the faithfulness of God. She kept in touch with all her school children even after they had grown and started families of their own. She married later in life and lived the rest of her years in Bournemouth, England.

Some of her life story is in the book "China Call" by Leonard G. Bolton
