Looking at the hill in the distance, appears to be Sheung Shui Railway Station. Comparison here The signposts for the Station appear on either side of the railway tracks but are too blurry to confirm.

Thank you - the comparison photos do look similar. These photos must have been taken in the early days of our arrival in Hong Kong before my Dad bought his new camera. I have inspected the original closely and can't make out any letters.

Moddsey is correct, it's Crest Hill in the background so it must be Sheung Shui.

On the photo zoom function the train station sign says Fanling. Do we have comparison views of Fanling train station? 

You're right. If it says Fanling then it must be Fanling. I guess the track is straight enough (and close enough) for the background of both stations to be the same.

Fanling it is. Absolutely right. It is interesting to note that the zoom function works better for clarity than the iPad photo enlargement!
