Hi there,

The Chinese signs gave the place away.  The sloping street shown in the capture was Centre Street wet market in Western District.  I recognized it because there is the Sign [多男大茶樓] at Centre & Queen's Road West.  The location of the camera man should be somewhere around slight higher than where Centre met 2nd Street.

Here's a photo from Moddsey's collection. It's dated to the 1950s, and taken from the other direction, looking up the hill:

On the left, just behind the lamppost is a building with a short balcony. Is it the same as the blue-green building in the Suzie Wong photo?

It is not Wanchai, it is the Center Street in Sai Ying Pun.
