Don't mention it. A clear reading of the tablet would require on-site visual & tactile inspection or even some stone rubbing with a piece of paper and graphite or crayon, I think.
Even for the bigger engraved words in the middle I could only make out just slightly more than half of the words﹐ which was (and still is) a common phrase on traditional Chinese tombstones. What I could read was X 顯考 XXX 公大人之墓 where the Xes are those I could not read from the photo. And that makes the master of the tomb a male. If it was a female it would most likely read X 顯妣 XXX 氏之墓。

Re: Stone Tablet
Hi there,
Didn't see this one until it popped up in random photo.
From the engraving in the middle, which is still visible, it is actually a tombstone. I was unable to make out the other two columns of words.
Was the stone standing up or lying on the ground?
Best Regards,
T
Re: Stone Tablet
Hi Thomas,
I'm not 100% sure, but looking at the original photo I think it was lying on the ground.
Thanks for the explanation of what it is,
Regards, David
