Adam asked:

Does anyone know where the Civil Hospital was located after it was moved from [Pedder's Hill] in 1859 until its destruction by the typhoon of 1874 (when it was temporarily housed in the old Hotel d'Europe on Hollywood Road, then on to West Point)? I've spent quite a bit of time trying to find this out, but to no avail.

I've seen a map from the 1860s showing it here. Also looking through Google Books, mentions of the Civil Hospital (eg see this) talk about it being "rebuilt" after the 1874 typhoon, suggesting the post-1874 building was on the same site as the earlier building.

Thanks David, if you've seen an 1860s map with it shown there, then that's pretty conclusive. The Civil Hospital was at the old Hotel d'Europe from November 1874 (http://sunzi1.lib.hku.hk/hkgro/view/g1874/697099.pdf)until the fire in December 1878, and then occupied for a time what was the new Lock Hospital on the site shown on your map. The rebuilding apparently took a very long time.

The later Lock Hospital looked to be the same shape and location as this incarnation of the Civil Hospital. I guess the Lock Hospital was built on this building's foundations.
