Crown Wine Cellars & Bunker Hunting Any help appreciated
Primary tabs
Dear Guys
I stumbled upon your superb website the other day. I live in the uk and have visited HK a few times in the past, mostly for holidays. I belong to a group in the UK called Subterranea Britannica or subbrit. It is a club for people interested in underground and military complexes.
I am due to be in Hong Kong in 2 weeks time, I suddenly thought that there maybe some interesting underground structures. Especially as it was in British hands for so long. I would imagine there are many people who were based or worked in such areas.
If anyone would be willing to give me some information or point me in the right direction, I would be truly greatful. Did the British make any provision for any nuclear bunkers at either military establishments or to keep comms equipment safe should such an event take place?
Has anyone visited the crown wine cellars to visit the underground tunnels? It looks very impressive from a historical perspective. Does anyone know if it is possible to visit using public transport?
Kind Regards

Re: Crown Wine Cellars
Hi there,
They have tours on every 3rd Saturday of the month at 1100 hrs sharp. Try to go to http://www.crownwinecellars.com/ for details. By advanced appointments only.
They have a PDF file with a map showing you how to get there. No public buses to the door, but a Taxi should do.

Gwulo is chock full of details of the ARP (air raid tunnels). You have to comb through it though. Government Hill Concern Group (www.governmenthill.org) is trying to save the ones under the Central Government Office.
They are not open to the public, but you can peek into the store room that is the tunnel portal under the Duddell Street steps.
Bunker Hunting
Michael,
The 'Battle Box' was the big underground bunker, but it was excavated & destroyed during re-development of the area.
A couple of smaller structures that might be interesting are the Shing Mun Redoubt, and the Bunker at Tai Tam Gap.
Unfortunately the ARP tunnels are all closed to the public, so no chance to get inside any of them.
There are Japanese wartime tunnels in the hills. Not sure if they're of interest?

And of course there's the Museum of Coastal Defence at Lei Yue Mun with its restored underground munition bunker and pill box defense structures.
