Sydney Charles COLLINS [1914-1947]
Primary tabs
I have just been recommended to your site by a distant relative who was researching the family history. It is an amazing resource. My father, Sydney Charles Collins is buried in Happy Valley. He was shot by bandits on Jan 1 1947 when going to the assistance of the driver of a rail-bus which was being held up and the passengers robbed. My mother and I (aged 4) were with him, as well as two friends, one of whom was injured. We were all returning from a picnic in the New Territories. He was a surveyor and had only been in Hong Kong a few months - my mother and I even less time. I have copies of the police reports of the incident and newspaper cuttings of the time but have never visited the grave as, a short time after he was killed my mother and I made our way to Rhodesia (in part by flying boat down the Nile) where her brother was living.
