Procession lined by school children?

I have to admit this is a photo of a photo - so my apologies for the quality of the picture! I know it is taken looking north on the Chai Wan Road - but I am intrigued to know what the Government cars were doing being greeted by hundreds of school children? Any ideas?

Looks like a Royal visit. If I had to guess, I'd say Princess Alexandra in 1961. She was driven on a circular tour of HK Island as I recall, and the photo looks to be from around that time.

Hi there, looking at the 1st car in zoom... it appears a woman in a biggish light coloured hat behind the driver is giving the old Royal Wave to the crowd of kids... so I reckon Adam is right... definitely a Royal Visit. Oh also there is a Crown emblem on the boot... further confirmation. Cheers, Graham.

The Governor's car(s) had the Crown emblem on them.

Thanks Bails for the info that the Governor's car had the Crown Emblem on the boot... I wondered about that. Graham

I remember standing along Pokfulam Road near St. Anthony's Church as a boy watching HRH Princess Alexandra & entourage drove past from the west.  It must have been that round HK tour.

Wonder what happened to that crown Rolls after 1997.  The Governor's yacht - Lady Maurine has been sold and is usually moored at Causeway Bay.

Some time circa 1976, that Governor's Rolls ran over a dog somewhere along Caine Road.  It was said that Sir Murray Maclehose alighted and ordered his bodyguard to put the injured dog out of its miseries by shooting it on the spot.  I wonder if the incident was reported as 'Police Open Fire!'

I wonder if the bodyguard had to write a report.  :)

It would be great if John can make the info about all the Rolls Royce in Hong Kong available.
