Yau Yat Chuen - traffic control devices?

As a boy, in the early 1960's,  I recall being taken for walks by my Amah around Yau Yat Chuen. We were living on Argyle Street at the time. I vividly remember there being red-brick 'pyramids' in the roads of the quiet Yau Yat Chuen residential neighbourhood - which I think were to either prevent or slow traffic. 

I am wondering whether Moddsey can find a supporting photo of these constructions, or whether anyone else can recall them being there, and what their purpose might have been?

Didn't think it would take you long Moddsey!!! I was only 5-6 years old, but I would say they were 3-4' tall - I used to climb on them. I reckon they would be visible in a high quality airial photo?

Bails, I am asking someone who has lived in YYC since the 1960s to see if they recall this structure.  Were these things on the road, or on the side?  Did they make the cars weave around them, thus slowing them down?  And were the all around YYC or just some of the selected roads?  I spent my childhood in YYC myself, so I am as interested in the answer as you!

I recall that these things were on the roads, they would certainly have affected the flow of traffic and I don't think they were on all roads. Just a select few? I apologise that I cannot be more specific- but these are ' childhood' memories.
