Thomas Glendinning
Whilst serving as the OC Tai O Police Station, and living there with his family,he was shot dead on the 17th August 1918 by Indian Police Constable Teja Singh.Glendinning had previously charged Singh with ' Larceny '.After firing the fatal shot Singh then attempted to set fire to the Police Station whereupon the Indian Police stationed there abandoned it.Singh also shot at Mrs Glendinning and her child but fortunately missed. He then shot himself. At the subsequent Inquest the Coroner critized the Indian Police for their lack of fortitude and also made the recomendation that the telephone system be extended to all police stations.See Watson and Crisswell Page 110.
