Pictures of Tavern district
Primary tabs
I have spent some time looking through everything from ebay to obscure picture collections in American Universities for pictures taken around 1870/80 of the HK Tavern District.
My great grandfather had a place called The National Tavern on Queen's Road Central at that time. David has kindly worked out that it stood where today a building called 338 Apartments is. However, as my knowledge of HK streets and the changes that have taken place over the years would easily fit on the head of a pin, I am somewhat at a loss when looking at old pictures.
I understand that it is unlikely there is a picture extant of The National Tavern but one of the general area would be greatly appreciated as I want something to illustrate the look of Hong Kong when he worked there for my website.
Therefore this is a plea to all your experts of there for help. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,
I'd guess that one of the rooftops in this photo is the National Tavern. I can give a better answer next month when I'm home again.

Hi David,
Thanks for yours. Hope you have a great break and the weather holds up in these islands!
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards to all,

Re: National Tavern District
Looking at the photo, I think Queen's Road is the road that makes the angular turn as seen in the top left of the oval.
