Thanks to Rae for this newspaper clipping that mentions her father, R E Jones, serving onboard HMS Oswald, a submarine. It says he was heading from Singapore to Hong Kong.

Date is a guess.

If the newspaper clipping is correct, HMS Oswald sailed from Singapore on 21 March 1934 and arrived in Hong Kong on 27 March 1934. Not sure how these dates tie in with his government service in Hong Kong.

I believe my father started his prison officer career at Stanley sometime in 1935. He fell in love with Hong Kong and joining the prison service was probably the easiest and quickest way to start a life in Hong Kong. After the war he soon moved on to work in PWD. Rae
