Taken in the late 1960's. Perhaps the storage tanks are at Lai Chi Kok/Mei Fu ? One seems to have a 'Caltex' star symbol and there is what looks like an LPG spherical storage tank in the centre of the pic.

Re: Probably somewhere in Tsuen Wan
Hi there,
The peninsula and the skylight did not add up. But likely somewhere in Tsuen Wan. That looked very much like Tsing Yi Island on the right hand side. If this is the case it would be before the bridges were built.

I agree with Thomas that the photo was taken from above Tsuen Wan. It looks along Rambler Channel towards Hong Kong island.
On the right edge of the photo, the foreground is Tsuen Wan, then sea, then Nga Ying Chau, then Tsing Yi beyond that.
Over on the left are the tanks in the Texaco Oil Depot.
I've added Places above.

Re: location of photographer
Hi there,
It would seem the photographer was not too high up on the hill. Probably somewhere along the lower section of Route TWSK, or even a bit lower than that. Most of the buildings in the immediate foreground looked industrial. If we hae an old map of Tsuen Wan we might be able to identify some of the buildings.
Thanks & Best Regards,

Tsuen Wan- Tsing Yi Island
The break water on the left is shown in a 1975 aerial photo of the Tsuen Wan/Tsing Yi area but not in a 1964 photo.
Re: Breakwater, Tsuen Wan - near Gin Drinker's Bay
Hi there,
I believe the breakwater still exist today. Also googled a similar photo a bit later than the photo above.

Tsuen Wan Breakwater
Thanks everybody for your research and comments which have certainly stirred memories of that particular day ! Yes, it was taken from above Tsuen Wan, I think from somewhere near the then Jubilee Reservoir. On the strip of negatives taken on the same day there are pictures of a 'go kart' meeting organised by the HKMSC (HK Motor Sports Club) for their families which was held 'somewhere up there'. P
