Hi Hf,

In the photo there is a big pipe line going down hill towards Tai Po.  The pipe is long gone but it was still there in the 1970's.  The support structure of the pipeline could still be seen today.  The footpath along it become part of the Wilson Trail.  Many favoured hiking routes converged onto the pass.

I believe it was named Lead Mine Pass because there had been mining activity in the neighbourhood.  If you look up 仁興礦場 (Yan Hing Mine) in Needle Hill you should be able to find documents or photos of some climbing entusiasts venturing into the old mine shafts and tunnels.

I also believe the CEDD had documented previous mining activities.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Hi T,have you ever taken any photos with similar view? it will be fun to see the comparison. Thanks, HF

Hi HF,

Not as for the time being.  I was there on route to Tai Po twice in 2013, but for both times it was after 1700 hrs, already getting dark.  When I was still up in the ridges, it was sort of hazy, thus unable to take any clear photo.

You need a very clear day to have a good view up there.  It would be fun to locate the location of the photo though.  Might be difficult as for the area close to the pass, trea planting in the past decades had changed the view of the slopes.  If you stand beside the former location of the pipeline, you might not be able to see much down the slopes except for the trees in front of you.

I'll see if I could take some photo while I am still on the ridge and above the woods next time I'm there.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T
