Born 3 September 1886 died 6 June 1967.
He was recalled to govern Hong Kong after being associated with two setbacks for the Japanese army in China. He governed Hong Kong February 20, 1942- December 24, 1944.
He was tried in Nanking (Nanjing) for war crimes in 1947 and served five years of a life sentence before being released.

Note:
This source gives the date for the end of his governorship as December 16. Philip Snow (The Fall of Hong Kong, 210) says his transfer to Japan was announced on December 24, and that's the date given by the Wikipedia article and the sources that reproduce it. Snow has Isogai leaving and being replaced by Hisakazu Tanaka 'early in the new year'.
