This photo was taken by my father either in the late 50's or early 60's - we had a yacht there in the marine - or "typhoon shelter" as it was called - and would venture out every weekend to one of the glorious bays or beaches around the island.

The causeway was built in 1952. So i would guess this photo was early 1950s whilst still under construction.
I'd guess nearer to 1960.
I'd guess nearer to 1960. Looking straight up from the yacht club there's the Far East Motors building, then a building with a pitched roof (a cinema?), then a much taller building. The taller building is Hennessy Apartments, completed in 1959.

Re New York Cinema
Hi David,
The Cinema should be the New York, inaugurated in 1955. We do not see the President Cinema at Cannon Street yet so it should be well before 1966. The present day Canon Street area was still undeveloped in the photo.
Thanks & Best Regards,
