I think this is James Ivor Barnes, secretary to the Medical Department before WW11 who was born about 1905 - he was 100 when he presented his memoirs to the Imperial War Museum in 2005.
He was born in Hartley Witney Hampshire and his birth was registered in the first quarter of 1904 so he could have been born in that quarter or in the fourth quarter of 1903.
1 January 1950 he travelled from Southampton to Hong Kong accompanied by his wife. James Ivor Barnes age 45 occupation civil servant and Joan Louise Barnes age 40 housewife. This suggests birth in 1904.
Deaths Civil Index shows Mr James Ivor Barnes age 104 died 4 December 2008 in a rest home in Hythe Kent and the Burials in the County of Kent records show that his ashes were buried 10 July 2009 Spring Lane Horn Street Cemetery. His wife Joan Louise Barnes nee?? was buried there 12 August 2001.
