Hi there,

I could not recall anything about that long building as shown in the photo.  That was well before I was born.

That plot of lan seemed to have something to do with the Hong Kong Playground Association.  The Association was establish in 1933.

Before the whole site (including the clinic) was rebuilt after MTR construction, there used to be a covered playground/stadium, run by HKPA.  Matches of Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Badminton and Table Tennis were staged there very frequently.  HKPA used to have an office block at the corner of O'Brien Road, which is also visible in the photo.  The Family Planning Association also had an office there, in the same building.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

The long building was the War Memorial Welfare and Recreational Centre. Comments made in http://gwulo.com/node/28432 . A photo of the building also appears in the Sunday Herald dated 4 June 1950.

Hi there,

Found this photo and this photo at eternal1966's Fl ickr collection.  For this one a roof is visible over the basketball court.  Unable to determine if it is a temporary roof or a permenant one.

Thanks & Best Regards,

T

Hi there,

Found another photo in eternal1966's collection with the covered playground.  The photographer was standing at Johnston Road facing North at O'brien Street.

Thanks & Best Regards,
