Wow amazing photo with lots of land cleared for the building boom to come.  Tai Wai is clearly seen in the upper middle, and the knoll in the middle just hides the Che Kung Temple.   The camera was being pointed northwestwards.   What were those low rise buildings to the right of the photo, on the southeastern side of the river?  It is where the Che Kung Temple station, and Riverpark development are today.

Greetings.  My hiking recollection and one photo (source unknown) taken in the 1950s at the head of the nullah tell me that the nullah was slightly larger than those on Nullah St or Nam Cheong St.  Then, water flow was very small and level in the nullah was about 6 feet lower than the road surface (hiking there on sunny day only).  I assume there are backwater effects from changing tides given the mild slope of the nullah.  The current Shing Mun River is wider than the original nullah which I believe was built to adequately convey peak runoff following storms taking future urbanization into account.  What also interests me is that the present level shown in Google photos appear to be higher than that in the original nullah.  They likely have excavated to lower the river bed in order to maintain a constantly inundated condition in the canal.
