It seems this photo was taken in Hong Kong Island ( Des Voeux Rd or Queensway?) in December 1942, as the first anniversary on Japanese governance in Hong Kong.
The tram car advanced Japanese “color” (military flag), and recognized the hanging curtain written in Chinese, “the first anniversary of newly born Hong Kong“ on the building wall behind the tram.
It was sad I heard from my friends in Hong Kong on a lot of evil deeds by Japanese soldiers during Japanese occupation of 44 months in WWII.
