Pottinger Gap AASL Storeroom?
Hi Rob,
I had a quick look around Pottinger Gap for the AASL Storeroom a few days ago. The only military building I found was this.
It seems to be a standard British military concrete accommodation shelter of the type seen all over HKI. From the end of the road that finishes at Pottinger Gap you take the path as if you were going to ascend Pottinger Peak. It crosses a water channel, then after a few meters starts to climb towards Pottinger Peak. At this point an overgrown, dirt path leads off to the left through the bush directly to the building about 50-100 meters away and on the same level as the road.
Is this the AASL Storeroom? The reason I ask is because its doors seem rather narrow for bulky equipment, there's no hard path for ease of movement of heavy equipement to and from the building and its on the same contour as Pottinger Gap itself whereas the "Place" marker puts the AASL Storeroom lower down the hillside.
If the pictured building is the AASL equipment storeroom, would there be, or have been, other buildings in the vicinity for storing the searchlight, generator or engine and for accommodation of the crew? Also, where would the searchlight itself have been positioned for use? As far as I can recall, the hillside is quite steep immediately around the building with the nearest open and flat area being at the Gap.
As usual, most grateful for your information and insight. Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Those shelters would appear to be linked to the AASL, but my guess is that as Pottinger was a late inclusion, after the new policy withdrew AASL's from the peninsular, and may have been a mobile site with the shelters being for crew accommodation when on site. Supposition until I find better info. I have searched the area without finding any other permanent buildings.

Thanks Rob.
