Hi all,
I'm new to this site. My wife and I lived in TTS and Shamsuipo 1955-59 when she worked for the Resettlement Department and I was at HMS Tamar.
Does anyone remember at that time the Chanteclair Restaurant on Nathan Road or the fantastic Ricky's Russian Restaurant a couple of streets back?
kind regards.....Keith

Hi Keith,
Thanks for writing in. I don't remember hearing anything about Ricky's before. Any chance you can narrow down the location?
We do have several pages about the Chantecler restaurant: https://gwulo.com/search/node/chantecler
If you can add any more information or memories to those pages they'll be gratefully received. Photos of 1950s Hong Kong are good to see too!

hi Keith, I used to frequent the Russian bakery restaurants at the foot of St Andrews Church's driveway in the 1960's. After church,we often went to Cherikoff or Chanteclair for a bite (loved their Chicken a la King served in a covered silver platter) or some of their delicious "perushkis" (sp?). I'm a bit foggy on the name Chanteclair/Cherikoff but there was also one on Prince Edward Rd, Mongkok. There was also one behind the YMCA in Tsim Sha Tsui on Hangkow Rd we used to visit but I forget the name. Fond memories from my childhood...... Best Regards, Mike

Too quick off the draw! I see that there is already a photo of the menu, probably the same one as I posted, in your Chantecler thread! Ooops! :P
Chanticlair
Hi again,
Thankyou for all your replies about the Chanticlair. It was definitely on Nathan road in the mid 1950's, we lived on Kimberley Road. We had just left UK where meat was still rationed and on our first visit to Chanticlair we had T-bone steaks which were hanging over the sides of the plate - we had never seen anything like it and the meals were served on green glass plates. Our next visit was in 1970 when the restraunt was on Hankow Road and they were STILL using the same green glass crockery!!!!
Russian restaurant on Hankow Road
Hi Micar
That sounds like Tkackenko's (I seem to remember we pronopunced it Tchenko's) restaurant at 3 Hankiow Road. In 1957/8 they too served enormous T bonesteaks in the upstairs restaurant. There was a cake shop on the ground floor.
Happy memories, Andrew
