This garden was quite close to the church and it provided us with some welcome shade on a very hot day.  I am fairly sure that it was the Jardin Luis de Camoes as the broad flight of steps matches that on Google Earth.

Yes, this is the Jardim de Luis de Camoes.

Not much has changed, Andrew, except for the addition of a large sculpture in the middle of the round flower bed (I think).
