This may have been covered elsewhere, but does anyone know of a list of the pubs, inns, taverns etc in Hong Kong in the nineteenth century. I'm looking at the moment for the Liverpool Arms, the Diver's Inn and Welcome Tavern, the Bristol Arms and the Crown and Anchor. I think they're all in or around Queen's Road Central, but it would be interesting for the stories I'm looking at to know where they were along that stretch. Thanks - Patricia

HK Hotels & Taverns in 19th Century
Patricia, I uploaded an extract on Hotels & Taverns from Jarrett's "Old Hong Kong" in the stream https://gwulo.com/node/32965 Vol.2 D-H pp. 503-507. It may be possible to download it, although I couldn't. Not sure if it contains all the taverns you're looking for but it may mention some of them. He drew his list from reports of the "Annual Licensing Meeting" in 1873 and 1880.

That page seems to have disappeared, Jill. Clicking the link you gave goes to a 'page not found' ... but I've now found Moddsey's 1898 list in Pubs and Hotels at https://gwulo.com/node/4750 .... trouble is, they tended to change their names, didn't they! Will try on the gov docs online when its working again ...
Jarrett's "Old Hong Kong"
Try searching "Jarrett's "Old Hong Kong" in the search window. It came up for me. I haven't got Patricia Lim's book with me, but she has a section on tavern owners, which might be useful. You're right that, for example, the Diver's Arms changed its name according to Jarrett.
