There is some discrepancy in her age at any given time. Her birth was registered in Quarter 3 1890 in Bethnal Green. She appears on the 1891 census living with her parents Joseph William Spry and MaryAnn Spry. Recorded as aged 9 months, place of birth Bethnal Green. She was baptised 18 November 1896 parents William Joseph Spry and Mary Ann.

29 June 1891 Rose Spry born June 1890, her mother Mary Ann Spry and her siblings were admitted to the Hackney Union Workhouse and left there 9 July 1891.

In 1901 she was a resident at Highgate Wood Lodge Doddington Kent. This was a Wesleyan convalescent home functioning in connection with Dr Stevenson of the Wesleyan Orphan Homes for children. Her father Joseph William Spry and one of her sisters died in 1910.
