OBITUARY
MR. J. G. MARSHALL
An old resident of Hongkong was buried yesterday in the person of Mr. James Gray Marshall, who died at the Matilda Hospital on Saturday, November 1st after a very long illness.
Mr. Marshall was in his earliest years in the Colony well-known as an excellent shot with the rifle and won a good number of prizes. He served in the Volunteers for a number of years and was a member of the United Service Lodge of Freemasons Society.
The funeral took place at Happy Valley, the Rev. Kirk Maconochie officiating, yesterday afternoon, at 4.30 p.m. and a large gathering of the deceased’s friends were present to pay their last respects. The bearers were Messrs Brown, Budden, Kerrison, Mugridge, Phellips, and Townsend.

DEATH OF NAVAL YARD OFFICER
MR. JOHN MARSHALL
The death has to be recorded, on Saturday, of Mr. John Marshall of the Naval Yard (Stores Dept.) after nearly 24 years' residence in the Colony. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, at Happy Valley and was attended by the heads of the various Naval Stores Departments, including Messrs. Platt, Mugridge and Barnett and practically all the naval ratings connected therewith. The Rev. J. Kirk Maconachie officiated at the graveside and [the same description of wreaths as given above].
Mr. Marshall was a native of Dumbarton (Scotland) and at the age of 18 joined the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He arrived in Hongkong in 1895 and joined, the Dockyard Police whence he was transferred to the Naval Stores Department. He was invalided out of the Service in June last and had. been recommended for a pension.
He leaves behind a widow and family for whom much sympathy is felt.

Wills and Probate records have him as James Grey Marshall and Find A Grave has mistranscribed him as James Cray Marshall and refers to a son of his David Marshall who died in 1918. Ancestry Tree has David Gray Marshall who died 28 February 1918 Race Course Fire Happy Valley. Was there such a fire?
