This list says he was a government Health Inspector before internment at Stanley. Then gives these dates after the liberation of Hong Kong:
- 1945, Sep 11 - Departed on leave
- 1946, Aug 9 - Returned from leave
- 1946, Aug 22 - Technical Assistant (Social Hygiene)
- 1946, Sep 22 - Resigned
So back to Hong Kong, working again in a government role, but just for a month.
The 1951 copy of The Journal of the Royal Sanitary Institute lists a William Edward Barry TANNER in Kuala Lumpur.
