Did you reach it from the road near the service reservoir, or from the stairs?

I went up the stairs opposite the service reservoir, this is a place tampered by the morning walkers. Someone has left a big stinky poo on the path just off the structure in your photo, blocking our way, leaving us no other choice but to step across it, urgh!

Anyone knows what the chimney-like structure on the far side is for?

There was a small section of tunnel still open in 1997. That was an airshaft for it.
