She was the daughter of the Reverend Gerard Heath Lander Bishop of Hong Kong and his first wife Amy Lander nee Fletcher who died in 1902 when her daughter Dorothy was six years old.

Dorothy Stewart nee Lander was born 29 May 1896 in Liverpool and baptised 3 July 1896 at St. Benedict's Church Liverpool.

Dorothy Stewart nee Lander died 1 January 1990 in Guisborough Cleveland.
