I strongly suspect that this Dai Pai Dong was on Fenwick Street in Wan Chai. In 1958 there were a lot of them with the customers' stools raised on benches and we used to eat at one somewere behind the Missions to Seamen building. By1981 many Dai Pai Dongs had up-graded to chairs and tables - hence my photograph of this one. Please see Moddsey's comment. I have now flipped the photograph and thank him for identifying it as being Luard Road.

Re: Dai Pai Dong

Thanks Moddsey. All done. I wonder how many more need flipping? Keep your eyes on them! Andrew
flipping
No flipping is necessary. It is a picture taken either at the Hennessy road-Luard road junction
or Thomson road-Luard road junction with camera facing south along Luard road.
One can see the famous 和昌大押 Woo Cheong Pawnshop on Johnston road.
It still exists today except it has turned into a restaurent with the external facade mostly intact. At the top of the building is the sign of the pawn shop in Chinese characters "和昌大押". As different from English writings, Chnese characters are written from right to left. If you compare the sign in this Google map street photo and the photo of Andrew. They look the same and in the right order.
Re: Flipping?
The original photo showed the Dai Pai Dong on the left side of the road. After flipping, the correct image is shown,
