Typhoon Wanda?
Sunken ship caused by Typhoon Wanda?
sunken ship?
If we look at the Tonnochy pier in the early days, there was a floating platform on the side of the main structure of the pier. Obviously the pier was not built for the use of YMT ferry boats. They didn't fit one another. The platform was for connecting the ferry boat to the main structure. By the way the picture must be taken between 1956 and 1963. The Stewart pier down one block was built in 1956. The Tonnochy pier itself was expanded with addition of two wings in 1963. The picture shows the pier before expansion.

Apparantly they had removed the platform before Wanda arrived. Therefore the object was indeed a sunken ship.

However, in 1957-12 an enclosed rest area was built on the waterfront between the two piers. It is absent in the picture above. Therefore the date should be either 1956 or 1957.

The same source with a more detailed picture of the scene shows both the name of the ship and the actual damage it had done to the pier.
