Timeline:

  • 1938: Construction commenced in June. Estimated cost £ 60,000.  (WO 106/2370). Initially for 2 x 4.7" QF guns, this was later amended to 2 x 6" BL guns.
  • 1941: Construction completed.  (WO 165/91).
  • 1941: Armanent: 2 x 6" BL guns.  (WO 106/2379).
  • 1941: Destroyed by crews on withdrawal 19th December.  (WO 172/1687).
  • 1945: No guns remaining, buildings intact but stripped.  (WO 196/10).
  • 2014: No.1 gunpit area demolished, now the site of a Cheshire Home. No.2 gunpit and some buildings remain.

The marker seems to be at the wrong place for the construction in your photo ...  From what I came across today after coming downhill to the hospice, and then left for the roundabout, it seems more likely to be the building further north of the hospice to the west of the road according to the government website 

I'll leave the marker in that position as it is roughly the middle of all the components of the Battery. There are to many to give individual positions.
