Hi

I live in Australia & because of my interest in WW2, many years ago a friend of my mothers gave me some memorabillia relating to this ladies internment by the Japanese during WW2 in Hong Kong.

This comprises

8 scraps of paper with hand written messages, notes & some hand written music & words.

2 sketches of Japanese guards

2 bamboo bible book marks used by intereens.

I am willing to donate these items to a museum or like minded society in Hong Kong, as I feel they deserve to be in the public domain.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for getting in touch. To make these historical items available to the public, a simple first step is to scan them or photograph them with a digital camera, and upload the digital photos onto this website. Then they'll be accessible to all. (Here's how to upload a photo/scan: http://gwulo.com/node/2076)

Then you could show those photos to one or more of these organisations to see if they'd be interested to archive / display the original items:

  • HK Public Records Office
  • HK Museum of History
  • HK Museum of Coastal Defence
  • HK University Special Collections
  • St Stephens School, Stanley
Regards, David

Hello Peter

I'm probably a bit too late in replying, in that you may well have disposed by now of the memorabilia to which you refer in your post. If you have not, however, already passed these items to another organization, you could do a lot worse than pass them to St. Stephen's College, Stanley, for display in their Heritage Gallery on the College campus.

(This is one of the former Staff bungalows built in 1929 / 30). David has included this location and suggestion in his reply.

Your point of contact at the College would be Mrs. Cortia CHUNG.
