DOB c1913 Nee Perkins Married Derby1937

Derby Evening Telegraph Monday Sept 24th 1945

“WIFE FREED FROM JAPS: NO NEWS OF HUSBAND Mrs Dorothy Wilson, who was interned with her husband, Mr William Wilson, when the Japanese invaded Hong Kong in 1941, has written to her father, Mr CJ Perkins, of 28 Kennilworth- Ave, Derby, from Stanley Camp Hong-Kong, but says that she has had no news of her husband since September 1943 when he was taken to Tokyo by the Japanese. Mr Wilson is an employee of International Combustion Ltd., Derby and he was working on the erection of a power station at Hong-Kong before the war.”

From Tony Banham’s lists it seems likely therefore that her husband  (married in Derby 1937) was Pte William Murray Wilson of the HKVDC Field Company Engineers, in Argyle St camp prior to transportation to Japan. He appears to have survived the war.

Thanks for the detective work, I've added in your information.

Hi David,

We are researching into an office assistant of the Hong Kong Observatory in 1941 Ms Dorothy Charlotte Wilson.  According to the PRO records, she was interned at Stanley together with the Director Mr Benjamin Davies Evans.  Do you think this Dorothy WILSON (née PERKINS) [c.1913-????]  could be the same person?

She is mentioned in Barbara Anslow's diary a few times so she may know? Her actual DOB was 23 May 1913 if that helps. Looks like she died in Wrekin District, Shropshire in Nov 2002. In one diary entry reference is made to her family back home, I think they were bombed out in Derby.

Hi CM & Nicola,

Yes, we're all talking about the same lady. Barbara's diary for 23 May 1945 mentions it was Dorothy's birthday, matching up with Nicola's date above.

Then a list of Stanley Internees only has one Dorothy Wilson. Her full name is given as Dorothy Charlotte Wilson, DoB 23 May 1913, and occupation "Stenographer", which would be the same as a secretary or office assistant in a modern office.
