Married to Ann. Ann and son Anthony (Tony) were evacuated to Australia via the Philipines in 1940. John worked for the prison service and after the war was transferred to Victotia Prison. Anthony was educated at St Joseph's College. John and Ann first retired to Christchurch in the UK and then moved to Canberra, Australia.

I believe this to be my Uncle John from Liverpool, any information would be greatly appreciated

"J. S. Joyce" appears on the List of Prison Officers for 1940, which shows he started work there on 1st Oct, 1925.

He fought in the Stanley Platoon of the HKVDC, as shown at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stanley_camp/message/1482

Regards, David

I've added a 1905 DoB from John Black's list.

Page J108 of the 1939 Blue Book lists John Simon Joyce under Prison Warders, on an annual salary of GBP330, and having taken 219 days leave during 1939 (probably a long leave back to the UK).

John is also mentioned in a few diary entries, see: http://gwulo.com/node/12205/backlinks
