Looking for the location of this c.1930 Image

Looking for location of this c. 1930 image
I'm looking to place this image, c. 1930, (one half of a stereo pair).
You can see by the enhanced cutout to the right of the old image that it is looking south towards the Peak, on which you can just make out some ghostly imagages of houses.
The Google Street View image on top is my best guess. On the South East corner is the old Wing Woo Grocery, which is now being restored. If this is wrong, I hope to find the correct location. Please let me know.
I am in the midst of a huge project; restoring every stereo image of old Hong Kong that I can lay my hands on. And I hope to give an accurate location for all the images and, if possilbe, to photograph (also in stereo) the modern scene from the same perspective.

Thanks for your help...

Hi Chris,

From the old photo, I found "英國梁" was written on the vessel.  Reading from right to left, which is the way Chinese was read in the past, it resembles a name. "梁" pronouns as Leung is the surname and "國英" as "Kwok Ying" is the given name.  I then googled the chinese name (梁國英) with "central" and i got this:

The caption of the first photo reads "1935年孖沙街禧利街交界處,可以看到中間的梁國英藥局", the translation would be "In 1935, at the corner of Mercer Street and Hillier Street, (you) can see Leung Kwok Ying pharmacy.

I don't know if the two photos were taken at the same place, but if you use google street view to look at those two streets, it's kind of match.

Hope it give you some hints.

It does seem that the old photo was taken at the corner of Hiller St and Mercer St, looking up Hillier St towards the Peak as Brenda discovered.  You could also guess that it's the same location by the curvature of the pavement in front of "Leung Kwok Ying" clinic.
