i wonder if any member knows Stanley Parsons who served as navy officer at HMS venerable during the war. studied law at oxford, later settled in Hove, and made friends with a Mr Cheung of Brighton who also opened a restaurant "Peking Gallery" in haywards heath in the 80s. Parsons was properly rather senior in ranking and was close to the rich and famous. including governor Mark aitchison Young. He later received an honorary degree from HKU...

re: Stanley Parsons
Did he also live in Hong Kong? If you can tell us more about which years he lived here, where he worked, lived, etc., that might help you hear from someone with more information.
Is he a relative of yours?

finding Stanley Parsons
He wrote to the university immediately after the japanese withdrawal from the colony about a large amount of HKU artifacts and documents hidden in the basement of the old hongkong bank.
He was Stanley Parsons (??) but i'm not sure about his last name. He went to my friend Mr cheung's shop in brighton and later his restaurant in haywards heath often and bacame friends in the 80s (when he had retired). A lot of documents were either lost or misplaced during the war and HKU was indeed grateful to retrieve some of her missing links. It was also the period of political vacuum as Mark A Young, later governor whom he knew personally, was not yet appointed by the foreign office. Parsons(?) spent much of his retired life in Hove and told his stories. veteran journalist Johnny Lau (yui-siu), who worked in wen wei po (UK branch) interviewed him in the 80s through my friend, and HKU awarded him some sort of honour as a gesture of recognition.. He died in early 90s and my friend attended his funeral in hove.
i believe some old hands at HKU or the press might have memories of this...
Stanley Parsons
I found a list of people that received honorary degrees from HKU, but unfortunately I don't see any names similar to Stanley Parsons:

Perhaps you can find his name from details of the cemetery where he was buried?
