Jeremiah Thomas Fitzgerald CALLAGHAN [1827-1881]
Primary tabs
I'm looking for photos / sketches / portraits of him for the CPS project's history book. A Barrister, he succeeded Henry Tudor Davies as Chief Magistrate. He arrived in Hong Kong "on the 25th November, 1860, from England and was duly gazetted the next day." [1] But he didn't stay long: "Callahan (sic.) left within a year, having been appointed Governor of Labuan". [2]
He died in 1881 in New York, but is buried in Gravesend, UK (see http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.callaghan/439/mb.ashx)
There aren't any results in the photo search at HKPRO, and he didn't serve with Legco. I didn't find any records in the UKNA, but only did a cursory search with his full name. He may well be there under a shorter /different version of his name, as he's been listed as:
- Jeremiah Thomas Fitzgerald Callaghan / Thomas Callaghan, see http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.callaghan/439/mb.ashx
- T. J. Callaghan, see [1]
- T. Callahan, see [2]
I have found a couple of mentions in family trees, and have contacted them:

Thanks to Maureen Pova, who sent me a copy of a short article about this man, which includes a photo. She doesn't remember the source, but I guess it is from "The Dictionary of Falklands Biography (including South Georgia): From Discovery Up to 1981", by David Tatham.
He writes that Callaghan "was born on 21 December 1827" in Ireland. I've updated the details above.
