Geoffrey Emerson writes:

I quote from my book: "...Mr. T. Yamashita and Mr. Nakazawa Chikanori (were) nicknamed Yam and Nak by the internees. Mr. Y had been long resident in HK and before the war had been a barber in the HK Hotel, his name at that time being 'Suna'. Before the war he spoke English but refused to do so in the Camp. One Christmas night he surreptitiously gave Mrs. Selwyn-Clarke a box of chocolates, a bottle of brandy and two balloons. She awoke a banker friend (Dick Olive) and the two of them got drunk on the brandy. Mr. Nakazawa before the war had been a tailor's assistant for five years in HK. Both he and Mr. Yamashita loved dogs and used to walk around the Camp with beautiful dogs they had obtained in HK."
