Thank you for drawing our attention to this composite photo prepared by Richard in flickr. The second upper left is a drawing mainly to show the Seamen's Hospital (in the centre on the hill) and its surroundings in 1873, but on the third upper left is a "real photo" showing, among other things, the old Wanchai Govt School in circa 1890. Virtually its surrounding was still scarcely inhabited. It is good to make a comparison between these two, and one will admire the observation power of the artist. The old Wanchai Govt School looks almost the same (although with some shrubs at its side in 1890), but heavy vegetation is found on the retaining slope of the Seamen's Hospital.
Photos (in the lower level) show the graduate changes of the area between early 1930, 1930s and 1950s. Wanchai Market (2nd generation) was completed in 1938. The central photo shows that it is still a vacant site.
