Royal Theatre at Nathan Road in 1963

Photo shows the Royal Theatre at j/o Nathan Road and Bute Street.  To its north, is the former KMB Hqs building (with flag post), which is also known as Pioneer Building.   When KMB Hq (Pioneer Building) was demolished, Empress Theatre and Pioneer Centre (2nd generation) was built on that site.  The present Pioneer Centre (3rd generation) sits on the combined sites of these two former theatres.

Film "Mutiny on the Bounty" is seen showing (on 6 May 1963) in Royal Theatre.

A short history of the Royal theatre.

I can see the film "Mutiny on the Bounty" is playing. That was released in 1962 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056264/), so I guess this photo was taken in 1962/3.

David,

Thank you for your information.  I have revised the date of the photo to 1962/63.   Furthermore "Tung Lok Theatre" has been rectified as Prince's Theatre.

David,

I recall that I saw the film "Mutiny on Bounty" starred by Marlon Brando at Queen's Theatre.  It was an MGM great production.  Queen's Theatre gave 3 shows daily at 2:30pm; 5:45pm and 9:00pm. with increased fares.

My search revealed that the film was shown at Queen's, State, and Royal Theatres as on 6 May 1963.  An advertisement appeared in Kung Sheung Daily on that date.   Hence I amend the date of the photo to May 1963.

Thanks for your help.

regards, Edmond
