'Red' Sammons worked for the Kowloon restaurateur E. F. Gingle.

Was he related to - even the father of - Frieda Salmon who was a friend of Barbara Anslow in the 1920s?

Hi Brian,

I'm not sure which spelling is correct, but in the couple of official references we have for him, his surname is spelled Sammons, eg:

Regards, David

Thanks, David. My mind did a reversal and I remembered him as 'Salmon, sometimes wrongly called Sammons'.

I doubt Barbara's worked in the same way.

Ernest Percy Sammons is listed on Camp Log with the spelling of "Sammons". There is no date of birth given but age is sated as 46 (I assume as of 1942 when he left camp). He was a US National and was part of Ed Gingles kitchen crew in Camp - "Red Sammons, ex-Navy electrician, who took care of the electrical equipment, stoves and boilers" (George Baxter).  He is not on the Gripsholm Passenger Manifest/List. He appears to have left Camp (Guaranteed out) with Gingles on or around 5th Aug 1942 and I think later interned in Ma Tau Wei Camp (1944). Best regards,  Philip Cracknell
